I have never been to Panda Express. My boyfriend kept talking about the black pepper chicken. I thought I would surprise him and make it at home. I love to cook and try to avoid fast food or large chain restaurants. When I came across your recipe, it looked really good, and easy. When I made it for my boyfriend, he looked at me funny and asked what it was. He said it didn’t look or smell the same. One bite later, he said it isn’t like Panda Express, but you can make this again, and again.

In reply to Anonymous. Thanks Kendra, maybe your rice wine vinegar was not fresh because rice wine vinegar is very mild. During warm weather I keep my rice wine in the refrigerator.

I put black pepper on everything, so obviously black pepper chicken is my favorite meal at Panda. I tried this last night and, surprisingly, thought there was too much pepper! Definitely making with 1/2 the black pepper next time.

Also, it smelled strongly of rice wine vinegar, which was a little bit of a turn-off, but it was good nonetheless. This was definitely a great, healthier substitute for my favorite Panda meal. Thanks for sharing!

I was reading your story about your daughter being allergic ( my son is too) I was just wondering if there was a substitute for it since I want to be able to feed this to him as well. Thanks you
