It’s that time of year again!
Yes, the weather is warming up and I am preparing to throw my annual Gumbo Party!
What’s a Gumbo Party?
Well, a Gumbo Party is a party that I throw every year before it’s too hot to eat Gumbo.
Because Gumbo can be heavy and spicy I really enjoy eating it in cooler weather and my Gumbo Party is a way for me to say “goodbye” Gumbo, I’ll see you in the Winter!
Note: don’t get me wrong on my “goodbye” to Gumbo because if the mood really hits me, I will crank the air up high and make a Gumbo in 110 degree weather in the middle of this hot Las Vegas desert in the summertime.
Yep, I am guilty of doing that many times and then feeling hot and stuffed for days, lol!
Back to our party.
What does one need to have the ultimate Gumbo Party!
First, you need Gumbo, pick a Gumbo, I make different types of Gumbo like Smoked Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Smoked Creole Gumbo with Shrimp and Sausage, and Smoked Turkey Gumbo.
Secondly, you need potato salad.
Yes, potato salad.
I know that’s a lot of food but I just can’t have a Gumbo Party without a big batch of creamy potato salad.
And don’t forget garlic bread!
It goes with the potato salad, lol.
It’s impossible to have a real party with one dish that’s why I throw in a couple of more dishes, it’s a southern thang!
Now we have our dishes it’s time to create a few desserts like my Butter Pecan Bread Pudding and Caramel Cake!
We have our gumbo, side dishes, and desserts which means it’s time to PARTY!
Make sure you have plenty of hot sauce for your party guest and loads of sweet tea.
Enjoy!
Oh man, a gumbo party sounds amazing! It’s already too hot over here to throw one for that reason, but it’d be nice to share wonderful food with friends. Plus have Tabasco-themed party decorations!
Yes, Jordan!
These recipes look awesome! My family and myself are planning to do a Creole Christmas Eve dinner! Would you have any suggestions for a full menu? appetizer, main course + side dishes, drinks and desserts? Thank you for your awesome website that keeps our culture alive through these awesome meals!
Hi Jackie! Everything on my site would be great for a Christmas party!
I’m a retired chef. Stumbled on to your website and fell in love with your flair! Happy cooking and Thanks!
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to find your site! We have loved Creole and Cajun food before Paul Prudhomme became famous. We used to live only two hours away from Layfayette and New Orleans – and spent 6-7 weeks a year with a ‘where to eat’ plan in hand as we toured this wonderful state. Now that we’re far away, we still like to cook ‘South Louisiana’ style. Your recipes are wonderful – tradition with a flair, and brand new with pizzazz! Thanks for your site!
Thank you Linda, I am so glad you’re enjoying the site!
